Unity Is Crucial For Africa's Common Peace, Freedom And Prosperity- Dr. Gedion Timothy
The 48th ordinary session of the African Union Executive Council is being held under the theme "Ensuring sustainable water supply and safe sanitation systems; for the success of Agenda In his message at the forum, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr. Gedion Timothy, recalled that Africa hosted developments and challenges in various fields last year. He said the position of African unity was expressed at the G20 summit held in Pretoria, South Africa. Referring to the increasing global geopolitical crisis, he said Africa was becoming a competitive arena in the fields of technology, mining and trade lines. He said the competition is affecting peace and stability in Africa. He said African unity must be strengthened to protect the interests of the continent and cooperation on equality and mutual respect is needed. The economic and social development sectors have shown sustainable growth in implementing the 2063 agenda and the Continental Free Trade Area, he said. Despite these achievements, he said much remains to be done to achieve Africa's goals and that it will require new determination and collective efforts. He called for cooperation led by Ubuntu, taking into account the needs of all countries.
