The World We Live In Today Is Undergoing Rapid Economic, Technological, And Informational Change. This Situation Has Made It Imperative In All Countries And Regions To Build New, Sustainable Economic Growth That Brings Tangible Benefits To The People.
In our country, extensive work is being done to build a stable economy with innovative ideas, speed and sustainable work to realize the journey of prosperity. This is laying a solid foundation for building sustainable economic growth and improving the lives of the people. For a long time, our country's economic growth has been expressed in numbers. The results, however, failed to improve the lives of the people in practice. The policies and strategies were not inclusive and the economy relied solely on the agricultural sector and paralyzed other sectors of the economy. The change here, however, is that the focus has expanded to many sectors and the economic growth has moved from quantified descriptions to tangible results. The Oromia Communications Bureau also held an exclusive interview with the Oromia Planning and Development Commission on the work being done to strengthen the economy of the region and build sustainable growth. The Director of the Directorate of Economic and Policy Analysis, Mr. Amare Hailu, told us that before the change, there was nothing practical beyond quantifying the economic growth of the country and the region but economic growth has moved from numbers to tangible results, he said. Manufacturing, tourism, mining and ICT sectors have been forgotten, he said, adding that sustainable economic growth has been achieved through the changes in all sectors But now all sectors have been given equal attention and huge revenue has been generated from tourism and mining sectors, he said. He said 28 initiatives have been formulated and implemented in the agricultural sector to increase production and productivity. Excluding various development works done with public participation and Busa Gonofa, the revenue of the state increased from Rs.25.23 billion in 2012 to Rs.200.26 billion in 2017, he said. Oromia has many opportunities such as geography, climate, natural resources, adequate human resources and an entrepreneurial government to build a resilient economy and bring about rapid growth in the fields of Agriculture, Manufacturing, Mining, Tourism and ICT The economy of the state has grown by an average of 8.4 percent in the past five years and reached 10.4 percent in 2017, he said. The country is working to create a sustainable and stable economy with innovative, fast and quantitative ideas to make the opportunities for building a sustainable economy a success in the coming years, he said.
